A Milestone for Rainbow Street: Our First Two Staff Hires
March 18, 2019
We're very excited to share with you a new chapter in Rainbow Street's development! With your generous support, Rainbow Street has made huge strides in our mission: to work alongside local activists to provide a lifeline for LGBT people in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
Together with our donors, partners, and volunteers, we've provided over 5,000 nights of shelter to our clients to date. Nearly half of those shelter nights were granted just last year. And we're on track for even bigger impacts in 2019.
These impacts are immeasurable for clients like Raghad, a trans woman forced to flee her home country to seek refuge in a safer land. With the support of Rainbow Street donors and on-the-ground activists, Raghad accessed the shelter and information she needed to navigate the UN's resettlement program. After 15 months with Rainbow Street, Raghad successfully relocated to her new home in Sweden. You made that possible.
We're excited to announce that Rainbow Street has outgrown our all-volunteer model. As of January 1, 2019, Rainbow Street has hired our first two full-time staff members:

We're excited for what comes next, and we remain as committed as ever to promoting the security, dignity, and wellbeing of LGBT community members in the MENA region.
The challenges ahead are numerous. We thank you for your support as we surge forward together!
