On Friday, February 21, 2020, Rainbow Street hosted a panel discussion titled Queer Super Powers: How LGBTQ Activism is Redefining Borders, Societies, and World. The event was generously sponsored by The Gayglers and held in the Google Community Space at 188 Embarcadero in San Francisco. Over 50 guests attended.

Pacific Center Board President Vera Hannush moderated the panel, which featured four LGBTQ speakers representing a diversity of identities and experiences:

  • Hani: Rainbow Street

  • Sophia Kass: Transgender Law Center

  • Tarek Mostafa Mohamed: University of California, Irvine (Anthropology Department)

  • Mona: Independent global LGBTQ activist

The discussion was wide-ranging, sobering, and passionate. The speakers recognized that the rise of the right in the United States threatens LGBTQ people everywhere and that this historical moment demands solidarity, activism, and support networks between LGBTQ people across borders. The panel also addressed the challenges of LGBTQ organizing in places where the very existence of LGBTQ people is illegal. After the initial discussion, the audience actively participated in a live Q&A with the panelists.

The event was generously endorsed and promoted by Rainbow Street’s community’s partners in the San Francisco Bay Area:
