AIDS Conference Delegates Seek Asylum in Australia

At the conclusion of the 20th International AIDS Conference held this year in Melbourne, up to 30 African delegates forwent their flights home to  seek asylum in Australia. Most delegates, originating from Tanzania, Uganda, and Ethiopia, are without stable housing and have sought support from Australian refugee support agencies.

HomeGround, an Australian anti-homelessness organization, is providing immediate short-term support to 14 delegates as they appeal for permanent refuge in Australia. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, HomeGround has enough funding to house the delegates for at least three weeks.
