Rainbow Street announces its call for a Fundraising Intern.

Rainbow Street is an Oakland based nonprofit startup that supports queer and transgender individuals living in crisis in the Arab World. Our work is unique in that we work directly with our beneficiaries to provide safe housing and other necessities while helping them formulate an individualized plan for their future. An internship at Rainbow Street provides valuable, hands-on work experience at an exciting, Oakland-based nonprofit startup. This position is ideal for those with a background in fundraising or nonprofit leadership seeking to gain relevant professional experience. There is high potential for a more long-term leadership role. Self-driven, detail-oriented, and passionate individuals are encouraged to apply.

All internships are 10 hours/week including weekly online check-ins and bi-weekly in-person meetings with Rainbow Street’s directors. We require a minimum 4-month commitment. Rainbow Street is a startup nonprofit that operates remotely.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Academic or professional background in relevant field.

  • Experience in event planning and/or soliciting donor contributions.

  • A strong personal work ethic.

  • An active commitment to global LGBT equality.

  • Must be a creative problem-solver, detail-oriented, and eager to take on new challenges.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Local volunteer experience.

  • Experience working in an entrepreneurial setting.

  • Specific knowledge, interest, or experience in Arab culture.

  • Arabic language skills.

Your Role:

  • Process all incoming gifts.

  • Support the stewardship of all donors through thank you cards, phone calls, etc.

  • Research prospective donors and grants.

  • Plan and staff all fundraising events.

This is an unpaid internship. You will have the opportunity to build a nonprofit from the ground up and most importantly positively impact the lives of LGBT Arabs in crisis. Rainbow Street’s founders and board members will be happy to offer letters of recommendation upon the successful completion of the internship.
